Imagine covering a song live and realizing the person who wrote the original is in the audience. That's exactly what happened to Callum McMorran on Tuesday night (January 7) when he covered Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" at Liverpool's Cavern Club and saw Billie Joe Armstrong in the crowd.
"Cool moment tonight," McMorran, who is the club's resident musician, captioned an Instagram post that shows the Green Day frontman quietly filming the cover in the tiny venue. Last year, Mick Jagger was caught dancing to a cover of the Maroon 5 song inspired by him: "Moves Like Jagger." It might not be a cover of his own song, but the video is hilarious.
The Cavern Club may be small, but it is legendary. The Beatles famously played at the venue 292 times between 1961 and 1963, as they ascended into superstardom. The club closed multiple times since first opening in 157 and reopened for good in 1991.
As for Green Day, they're gearing up to take their Saviors tour around the world. The trek includes shows later this month in two places the band has never played before: South Africa and Dubai.
