One wrong move turned into the right path forward for Billie Eilish.

The HIT ME HARD AND SOFT musician, 24, appeared on the May 5 episode of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast where she recalled the unexpected way her music career really took off, all thanks to a dance injury before she was even a teenager, per People.

"I have a solo in each combo," she said. "I was so excited. We were done with rehearsal. We were about to leave. And our teacher was like, 'Wait, let's do one more just to film it.' And so we did one more, and we filmed it, and in the middle of my little twerk — literally 12 years old — my hip is like [pops out] and I got injured."

Eilish, who had been focused on becoming a professional dancer, explained that the injury left her "lying on the floor" and that she was "basically bedridden for at least a week," adding, "and then I was on crutches, and I literally never danced again."

While she may have been disappointed in the short term, a bright side arose when she and brother/collaborator FINNEAS put their song "Ocean Eyes" on SoundCloud. The overwhelming response to the track led to her, still with her crutches, attending meetings with InterScope Records and booking agents and ultimately sending her on her way to her now successful music career.

The "Birds of a Feather" singer admitted she was "so sad" at the time, but she has since found a new perspective.

"When you think something is ruining your life," she said, "and it's really actually saving your life."
