The Recording Academy has announced they’ve added five new categories to the 2023 GRAMMY Awards, which will take place January.
New categories include Songwriter of the Year (non-classical), Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Americana Musical Performance, Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media, and Best Spoken Word Poetry Album.
In addition, they’ve announced a new special merit award, Best Song for Social Change. According to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr, the category is a way for the GRAMMYs To “continue cultivating an environment that inspires change, progress and collaboration.”
